If an insurance claim is rejected, the insurer may have
made a mistake, what can you do?
Recently one of our clients lodged a claim for storm damage
that caused water to enter their building through the roof.
That claim was rejected.
When a claim is rejected by an insurer, an Insurance Broker can identify when they believe a mistake has been made with that decision. Recently one of our clients lodged a claim for storm damage that caused water to enter their building through the roof.
That claim was rejected, however we believed the insurer was wrong and when we took it to the Financial Ombudsman, our objection was upheld. The Ombudsman ordered the insurer to provide indemnity for the repairs.
With the best interests of our client in mind, we kept advocating for their case and after a considerable amount of work, we achieved a great result saving them lot of money. It is one of many reminders of how the work of brokers can be of ongoing value.

The Bureau of Meteorology has declared
Australia on La Niña watch!
We face double the chance of La Niña forming in 2020. Australia’s last La Niña events
10 years ago saw the third and second wettest calendar years on record.
Australia’s last La Niña events 10 years ago saw the third and second wettest calendar years on record. It included the Brisbane floods, as well as other substantial floods in parts of New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Tasmania.
Heavy rainfall and windstorms can cause major flooding and building damage. Inadequate planning and maintenance may increase the likelihood of property damage.
We recommend that commercial property owners get regular building surveys to help prepare for weather events, and to help in understanding the risks, so mitigation measures can be put in place.
Physically preparing your home and business for severe weather events and developing an evacuation plan also makes good sense.
