As we enter into the second week of heavy rain,  the situation has significantly worsened along the East Coast of Australia – particularly in Northern NSW and South East Queensland. We send our sincerest wishes and hope that all effected are keeping safe. 

The magnitude of the current situation makes physical safety of the communities the absolute priority. There is a co-operative response underway from the relevant governments to ensure life-saving services are deployed and prioritised.   

Insurers are also preparing for the immediate and ongoing needs for customers, and are mobilising assessors, builders and other service providers to the affected areas.  

We have already received multiple claims over the past week and there are sure to be more.
We will do everything we can to work with the insurers, assessors and trades to assist with any claims you make. 

For our customers who have home, motor or business insurance policies, and are experiencing damaging rains but are not in a life threatening situation, there are steps you can take so we can start assisting you.

 Please note these important points.

  • Contact us immediately if you require temporary accommodation
  • Obtain make safe repairs when possible and IF SAFE TO DO SO
  • Photograph and video any damage, and any obvious points of water entry and damage to property.  If the water has damaged a large amount of your contents and/or stock, an assessor will be appointed to do the full documentation, so photographic overview is enough for you to start with 
  • If trees are threatening to cause damage to your property, we may be able to get assistance from your insurer to have them removed
  • Broken glass can be repaired immediately by a reputable glass repairer.  There is no need to get insurer approval to get this underway
  • Food spoilage – if your fridge contents are spoiled, or are likely to be spoiled, photograph now and make an inventory as soon as possible
  • If temporary power is required, hiring or obtaining a generator is likely to be covered under your policy


  • Not all policies exclude flood and not every water inundation into a home or a business is considered a flood
  • If your property does have water coming in from the ground level, regardless of whether or not you have flood exclusion under your policy, make sure to document any water that may also be entering the property from the roof/ceiling/damaged windows etc.
