Wardrobe items tend to be routinely overlooked and undervalued.

For contents insurance of $400,000 we expect to have around
$80,000-$100,000 of cover for clothing. For those with a dedicated interest in clothing, these figures can be significantly more.

Five items not to overlook valuing your wardrobe.

1. Suits.
These can easily be overlooked, especially when they’re kept in storage covers. Tailored suits typically cost between $1000-$3000, and we often encounter wardrobes containing 30 or more.
2. Dresses, jackets and coats.
These items from leading designers can cost from $2000 upwards of $10,000 dollars. Non-designer items combined together also become significant in value.
3. Designer shoes for both men and women can carry large price tags. The average person owns between 10 and 20 pairs of shoes. Often, we see collections that greatly exceed this.
4. High-value handbags can range from $1000 to well over $10,000.
5. Designer luggage collections like Louis Vuitton can add up to more than $10,000 for 2-3 pieces.

Most policies operate on a new for old basis. How much it would cost to replace items in your wardrobe as if they were new?
