There are many benefits that can be gleaned from employing the services of an insurance broker. We know what you’re probably thinking: ‘You would say that, wouldn’t you, because you guys are brokers.’
That may be true. Every once in a while, however, a situation arises that perfectly demonstrates why using a broker can be enormously beneficial to you and/or your business.
Often these situations have to do with the fact that using a broker helps to avoid unfair outcomes, as we always work in the interests of the insured.
In other words: an insurance broker works for you, not the insurance company.
Without a broker, if an insurance claim you have made is rejected, you may not be aware that the insurer might have made a mistake. You may not be aware that you may be entitled to your claim.
We encountered an example of this recently. One of our clients, who had an insurance policy providing building cover of $187,069, lodged a claim, which involved a storm that caused water to ingress into the applicant’s home through the roof.
That claim was rejected. However, when taken to the Financial Ombudsman, the Ombudsman found that that this rejection was made in error. The Ombudsman decided that cover should be provided to the applicant, as well as indemnity for the repairs.
With the best interests of our client in mind, we kept advocating for their case. After a considerable amount of work, we achieved a great result. This result saved the client a lot of money. It is one of many reminders of why the work of brokers is so valuable.
